CORYDON, IND. — An amended WARN notice posted by the state of Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development was recently filed by Tyson Foods Inc. regarding the closure of operations at its Corydon, Ind., plant. 

The company expects most operations to be done on March 1, but decided to extend the marinated raw breading operations until April 6.  

Tyson’s previous WARN notice in August 2023 stated that 368 employees would be terminated after the plant closure was finalized. 

Approximately 132 employees will now be kept on through April 6, according to the notice. Another 35 people will also be retained after April 6 to assist with the plant closure. 

Some of the employees being retained past the March 1 date are represented by United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 227, according to Melvin Fulson Jr., division vice president of poultry for Tyson. 

“Team members being asked to extend their employment have been personally notified,” Fulson said in the notice. “There is a collective bargaining agreement in place that governs bumping rights for team members in the applicable bargaining unit. Bumping rights have been effectuated to determine the employees whose employment will be extended.”   

Last August, Tyson announced it would close this Indiana facility, one plant in Arkansas and two plants in Missouri as part of its fiscal third-quarter earnings release.
