SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – JBS announced the company’s entry into the compounding pharmacy market with Genu-in, a brand specializing in collagen peptides and gelatin, and a partnership with Galena Farmacêutica for the exclusive sale of its collagen.
“We are excited about this union as it represents the entry into a very important market for us,” said Ricardo Gelain, executive director of Genu-in. “Knowing that we will be able to help people through our products is what drives us to continue on this path.”
Genu-in uses beef by-products from the JBS beef chain to produce collagen and gelatin peptides, reinforcing the concept of circular economy in JBS's value-generating ecosystem, the company said. Galena Farmacêutica has more than 80% market share in national distribution and, over the last 37 years, has stood out for its performance representing large laboratories in Europe and the United States in Brazil. Genu-in chose Galena as its sales partner because it is one of the brands most recommended by nutritionists for compounding products, according to JBS.
“The partnership is in line with the brand’s expansion strategy and aims to expand to new distribution channels, in addition to getting even closer to its target audience, such as doctors and nutritionists,” Gelain said. “As one of the largest players in this segment, we are very happy to offer complete products to our customers. This approach to collagen prescribers will be very important for us to increasingly meet the needs of our audience.”
The meat processor so far has invested $400 million reais in Genu-in and expects to reach roughly 8,000 points of sale throughout Brazil with Galena handling sales. With two years of operation, Genu-in, which has a presence in several countries, aims to expand its business to new sectors. Collagen is the fourth most prescribed item by nutritionists.
Agenor Giuliette Jr., president of Galena Pharmaceuticals, said, “the decision to partner with Genu-in is based on the fact that it is the only brand in the market that has full control of the production chain, from the farms to the final product. This control and monitoring of the raw material ensures the production of superior quality items and total transparency for the consumer. In addition to being a highly technological operation with a 4.0 factory that delivers the best in sustainability.”
