HAZLETON, PENN. — Temperature-controlled industrial REIT and integrated solutions provider Lineage announced on April 11 the construction of a new cold storage warehouse in Hazleton, Penn.
The fully automated, next-generation facility will span approximately 386,000 square feet and accommodate about 85,000 pallet positions for temperature-controlled products. The facility implements advanced technology and automation, such as cranes and rail-guided vehicles, inbound lanes featuring proprietary computer vision technology that automates the product receiving process, and automated layer picking.
Company officials said the Hazleton warehouse is strategically positioned to deliver added value for its customers in the region.
“As a testament to our commitment to meeting our customers’ needs, we’re excited to complete the construction of this cutting-edge facility in Hazleton while simultaneously fostering job growth in the communities we serve,” said Matt Cramer, president of North America East at Lineage. “This latest addition to our automated network furthers our purpose of delivering food safely and reliably to millions of families around the globe.”
Lineage is currently seeking to fill an office manager position as well as 12 maintenance technician roles. The company noted that once at full capacity, the facility will support over 100 new jobs.
Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
Lineage’s automated facility portfolio includes more than 80 fully and semi-automated buildings backed by proprietary software and an in-house automation team.
In October 2023, Lineage completed a 200,000-square-foot cold storage facility constructed for JBS USA in Windsor, Colo., to support the distribution of products to customers. The facility is able to hold over 20,000 pallet positions.
