WASHINGTON — The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for raw ground beef products from Greater Omaha Packing Co. that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
No recall was issued since the products are no longer available for purchase.
The items were produced March 28 and have a “Use/Freeze by” date of April 22, 2024, as well as a package date of “032824.” A complete list of the products subject to the health alert can be found here.
Greater Omaha discovered the problem while conducting an inventory of product that was on hold due to testing positive for E. coli. The company notified FSIS that it inadvertently used a portion of the contaminated beef to produce ground beef products that they shipped into commerce.
The ground beef products were shipped to foodservice institutions and retail locations nationwide.
FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of the products.
