SONORA, CALIF. — Diestel Family Ranch, a fourth-generation turkey ranch, announced that through a partnership with Regenified, it has sourced 740 tonnes of Certified Regenified Corn for its Regenerative, Pasture Raised turkey program.
Diestel is sourcing feed ingredients directly from certified farmers to improve the impacts of its regenerative efforts. The ranch’s ultimate goal is to create an entire supply chain of regenerative products that support the planet and the future of farming.
“This is a huge milestone in our industry as we know our future depends on the way we farm,” said Jason Diestel, a fourth-generation family farmer at Diestel. “We know all too well that everything starts in the soil, which is why we are beyond thrilled to be sourcing regeneratively grown corn, leading the way for regenerative agriculture in poultry.”
Diestel’s regenerative program follows a multispecies, rotational grazing approach that promotes long-term, measurable improvements of the environment and soil. Diestel has recently begun to plant hundreds of evergreens, perennial shrubs, grasses and flowering trees to promote biodiversity on its farms. The plants attract beneficial insects, improve water quality, suppress weeds and are a key component to creating a diverse landscape, the Diestel Family Ranch said.
For over a decade, Diestel has been producing high quality compost, which is used to restore biodiversity at a microscopic level. The ranch also uses probiotics to support bird health and a healthy ecosystem while eliminating the need for traditional chemicals like chlorine.
Diestel committed to sourcing 100% of its feed for the Regenerative, Pasture Raised turkey program from regeneratively certified farms across the United States.
Diestel plans to launch regenerative ground turkey and deli meats in the future to complement its already successful holiday whole turkey program.
“We applaud the Diestel family for paving the way for future generations with innovative farming practices that set high standards for animal welfare, safety and transparency,” said Salar Shemirani, chief executive officer at Regenified. “It’s critically important to connect all the points within the supply chain and we hope that by facilitating access to this regeneratively certified grain other producers will follow the Diestel’s lead.”
Regenified is a land verification and product certification program that champions regenerative agriculture.
