WHITEHALL, NY. — A June 15 fire damaged Champlain Beef’s processing facility in Whitehall, NY,. No injuries were reported.

The facility suffered severe damages according to local media reports. The fire also caused a two-hour closure of the nearby highway, Route 4.

The fire likely started in the middle portion of the facility, spreading toward the rear, which appeared to have been completely gutted, according to the report from NYVT Media. Little fire damage was visible in the front portion of the plant that could be seen from the road, the report added.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

Champlain Beef released a statement on its Facebook page confirming the incident and that it would not provide additional comments to the media at this time.

“We wanted to thank the fire departments and members of our community, including other small businesses, for their tremendous support following the fire at our facility on Saturday,” the company said in the post. “This has been a devastating event, but we are grateful nobody was injured and for the continued support from our community.”
