KANSAS CITY, MO. — Spicy flavors are bringing the heat to foodservice menus across the country.
Restaurant Brands International brand Burger King has debuted its “Fiery Menu” featuring five new offerings with a range of spice levels. The line includes: fiery chicken fries; fiery mozzarella fries made with Calabrian pepper breading; fiery strawberry and Sprite, a blend of Sprite soda with a low-grade spicy strawberry puree; fiery bacon Whoppers, a quarter-lb burger patty topped with seasoned bacon, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato and a spicy condiment topping; and fiery crispy chicken sandwiches, a white meat filet coated with a heat-infused glaze, seasoned bacon, pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and a spicy condiment.
“We know that our guests crave spice packed full of flavor when they come to BK, but spice looks different for everybody,” said Pat O’Toole, chief marketing officer for Burger King North America. “As a brand that is built on letting guests ‘Have It Your Way,’ we’re excited to offer a range of products that appeal to everyone — from those who want just a little kick to those who can’t get enough heat.”
Connecticut-based Subway Restaurants is adding a set of new sandwich offerings featuring new toppings and sauces. Joining the Subway Signature series are the spicy nacho chicken sandwich, with rotisserie-style chicken, green peppers, red onions, jalapeño peppers, a new cheddar cheese sauce, sriracha sauce and SubKrunch, a novel crunchy topping with savory notes; the honey mustard barbecue chicken sandwich, with rotisserie-style chicken and honey mustard and barbecue sauces; and the cheesy garlic steak sandwich, with sliced steak, green peppers, red onions, SubKrunch, roasted garlic aioli and cheddar cheese sauce.
“Subway’s new menu update is all about great flavor at a great value and giving our guests new ways to take their footlong subs and snacks to the next level,” said Paul Fabre, senior vice president of culinary innovation at Subway.
Panera Bread is tapping into the spicy trend with two new heat-filled sandwiches, along with two new avocado-focused menu items. The spicy fiesta chicken sandwich features an all-new salsa verde spread combined with grilled chicken, white cheddar cheese, sweet peppers, cilantro and roasted corn in between slices of ciabatta, and the Kickin’ grilled cheese sandwich adds the salsa verde spread to a blend of American and white cheddar cheese on top of white miche bread.
Panera’s classic avocado toast boasts a chunky avocado spread topped with everything bagel seasoning, sea salt and black pepper served on sourdough, and its garden avocado toast includes the same spread with sliced tomatoes and a garlic aioli drizzle.
