GREELEY, COLO. — The Greeley Fire Department (GFD) confirmed that it responded to a structure fire at a JBS Swift & Co. beef distribution center on the morning of Aug. 12, with the investigation ongoing.

Crews extinguished the fire that began at a cold storage building at approximately 3:30 a.m. GFD stated that the fire had been under control for about two hours.

All personnel at the JBS facility were evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Nikki Richardson, a spokesperson for JBS, told MEAT+POULTRY that the facility was open and operating normally on Aug. 13. Richardson added that the facility was delayed on Aug. 12 but operated normally in the afternoon.

“We are grateful for the swift response and coordination between our neighboring fire departments,” said Brian Kuznik, chief of Greeley Fire Department. “The actions of our firefighters allowed for a quick resolution to this structure fire. Our primary focus now is on determining the cause of this incident.”

The release from GFD said fire investigators arrived at the plant on Aug. 12 and are in the early stages of investigating the origin of the fire, which remains unknown.
