WASHINGTON – The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recently announced plans to hold a virtual meeting of the National Advisory Committee on Meat and Poultry Inspection (NACMPI) on Sept. 16 and 17.
The committee works to advise the Secretary of Agriculture on state and federal meat and poultry inspection programs, food safety, and other industry matters that go into the Federal Meat Inspection Act (FMIA) and the Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA).
During its meeting, the committee will review and advise FSIS on whether the agency should change its definition of establishment sizes to better assess and describe current business operations. The committee will also offer input on other ways technology could enhance FSIS inspector activities.
Those two issues will be presented to the full committee before it’s divided into two subcommittees to discuss the issues. Each subcommittee will provide a report of their comments and recommendations to the full committee before the meeting concludes on Sept. 17.
FSIS will invite interested parties to submit comments on this meeting before Sept. 16.
People who want to participate in or listen to the public meeting with the NACMPI can do so by registering here.
