OMAHA, NEB. ‒ An inspection detail was listed on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) website stating that the agency is investigating a workplace injury at the Smithfield pork processing plant in Sioux Falls, SD.
“An employee at our Sioux Falls facility was injured in a work-related incident,” Ray Atkinson, spokesperson for Smithfield told MEAT+POULTRY. “We are investigating and are cooperating with local authorities and OSHA.”
OSHA opened up the inquiry on Aug. 20.
“No further information will be available until OSHA has completed their investigation, which by law, they have 6 months to complete,” an OSHA spokesperson said to MEAT+POULTRY.
The Smithfield Sioux Falls plant processes pork, bacon, deli meats, hot dogs and smoked meats.
The Sioux Falls plant employs more than 3,000 people and produces at least 130 million servings of food per week.
