MESQUITE, TEXAS — Meat processor Wycliff Douglas Provisions (WDP) recently announced its growth since it started in 2022 and plans for a facility expansion, thanks in part to a partnership with Dickey’s restaurants.

WDP said it has seen a 105% year-over-year increase in sales with a customer base that has grown by more than 200%.

The facility in Mesquite, Texas, is a 50,000-square-foot building that is USDA-inspected and provides many capabilities, including grinding, stuffing, injecting, marinating, tumbling, smoking, slicing, shredding and high-speed packaging. The company added that its freezer capabilities and redistribution of frozen items help reduce freight costs.

Having all these options allows WDP to produce a range of products like smoked sausage, marinated chicken breasts, pre-smoked wings and cooked meats for retail and foodservice customers.

The business is under the leadership of Chef Phil Butler, president of WDP, who continues to meet the needs of the Dickey’s barbecue restaurant chain, which was one of the company’s first customers.

“Today, WDP supplies high-quality meats to a wide array of establishments, solidifying its position as a trusted provider in the market,” Butler said.

WDP previously shipped its products within Texas but has now extended its service to all markets nationwide. To support this decision, the company plans to build an additional 25,000 square feet to its facility for four new smokers and a high-speed packaging line to support the company’s retail efforts.

“We are immensely proud of the vigorous growth achieved by Wycliff Douglas Provisions in just two years, it is truly remarkable,” said Laura Rea Dickey, chief executive officer of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurant Inc. “This expansion allows us to better serve our customers and meet the increasing demand for our high-quality meat products.”

Roland Dickey Jr., CEO of Dickey’s Capital Group, also discussed how it was Dickey’s commitment to provide the necessary manufacturing capabilities for its partners.

“We recognized the need for a better manufacturing option, so we built it,” said Roland Dickey Jr. “The success we have seen is a testament to our belief that if you build it, they will come.”
