OAKWOOD, GA. — As Hurricane Helene made landfall on the Florida coast on Sept. 26, Wayne-Sanderson Farms provided updates on its Facebook page on the status of operations in the southern United States.
The National Weather Service categorized Hurricane Helene as a Category 4 storm in the Florida Big Bend region. On the morning of Sept. 27, Tropical Storm Helene moved over Georgia with heavy amounts of rainfall.
“Please stay safe and tuned to your local news stations for further weather-related updates,” the poultry producer said in its post.
The company stated that the Dothan, Ala., plant did not operate the third shift on Sept. 26 along with the first shift on Sept. 27. Employees working on the second shift (sanitation) and third shift are expected to report for normal schedule on Sept. 27.
Union Springs, Ala., reported its processing facility would not operate on the first shift for Sept. 27, but the second shift would work as normally scheduled.
The Enterprise, Ala., plant did not operate the first shift on Sept. 27.
Employees working on the second shift (sanitation) and third shift should report to work as normally scheduled on Friday.
In Moultrie, Ga., plant employees did not operate on the second shift on Sept. 26, and employees working in sanitation on second processing were told to report at 4 p.m.
The first and second shifts will not operate on Sept. 27. Employees working in sanitation should report to work as normally scheduled on Friday evening.
For its Pendergrass, Ga., facility, Wayne-Sanderson said it would not operate its first shift on Sept. 27, but employees on the second shift should report to work.
In North Carolina at its Dobson Complex, the company said the first shift at the facility would not operate on Sept. 27. The second shift should report on the regular schedule.
Any operations updates are expected to be announced on Wayne-Sanderson’s social media accounts.
