KANSAS CITY, MO. — A recall of nearly 10 million lbs of chicken processed by BrucePac, Woodburn, Ore., and potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes is rippling through retail and foodservice supply chains.

On Oct. 9, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said the company was recalling ready-to-eat (RTE) poultry products manufactured at its Durant, Okla., processing facility that may be contaminated. On Oct. 11, the company added 15 poultry products to the list and brought the total number of recalled items to 90.

BrucePac is a meat processor that serves the industrial, retail and foodservice markets. Products associated with the recall range from RTE poultry, frozen meals, prepared foods, prepared salads, salad kits and others.

Retailers such as Walmart Inc., Target Corp., the Kroger Co., Raley’s and Trader Joe’s source private label prepared meals from BrucePac that are included in the recall. Other brands impacted by the recall include Atkins, Boston Market, Jenny Craig, Michelina’s, Red’s, Taylor Farms, Udi’s and many others.

Reser’s Fine Foods, Beaverton, Ore., initiated a recall of several meal kits that may contain the recalled meat. Similarly, Albertsons Companies, Boise, Idaho, initiated a similar recall of meal kits and store-made deli items, according to the company, as well as some products sold under the retailer’s Signature Select private brand.

The contamination was discovered after the FSIS tested some finished products containing the RTE poultry. A subsequent investigation identified BrucePac as the source of the products.

No illnesses associated with consumption of the recalled products have been reported, according to the FSIS.
