WASHINGTON — A Tu Gusto LLC, a Lehigh Acres, Fla. firm, is recalling around 7,630 lbs of frozen meat and poultry croquettes produced without the benefit of a federal inspection, announced the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Oct. 29. The agency added that the products may contain undeclared allergens.
The products contain soy, sesame seed and wheat — all known allergens — which are not declared on the product label.
The following items, which were produced between April and October of 2024 with a six-month shelf life, are subject to the recall:
- 32-oz box containing “A TU GUSTO PALADAR POLLO (CHICKEN) CROQUETAS (CROQUETTES).”
- 32-oz box containing “A TU GUSTO PALADAR CHORIZO (SAUSAGE) CROQUETAS (CROQUETTES).”
- 32-oz box containing “A TU GUSTO PALADAR PESCADO (FISH) CROQUETAS (CROQUETTES).”
- 32-oz box containing “A TU GUSTO PALADAR JAMON (HAM) CROQUETAS (CROQUETTES).”
The products bear a USDA mark of inspection, containing the establishment number “EST. 11154,” which was falsely used by the recalling firm. The frozen meat and poultry items were shipped to a distributor, retail stores and restaurants in Florida and Texas.
FSIS discovered the problem during surveillance activities at a retailer and observed labeling irregularities. After further investigation it was determined that the items were produced at a facility that does not have a grant of inspection and contained allergens not declared on the product label.
FSIS said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products.
