WASHINGTON — The National Turkey Federation (NTF) is continuing its tradition of the annual National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation at the White House for the 77th year. The ceremony will take place on Nov. 25 with two turkeys raised by NTF’s very own chairman, John Zimmerman, and his family on their farm in Northfield, Minn.

NTF noted that a day prior to the ceremony, the group will host a press conference, including a livestream, at the Willard InterContinental to welcome the Minnesota turkeys to the nation’s capital. Zimmerman will provide remarks as the prospective National Thanksgiving Turkeys make their debut.

The ongoing tradition dates back to 1947, when President Harry Turman first presented the National Thanksgiving Turkey.

Last year, President Joe Biden pardoned turkeys “Liberty” and “Bell” from the dinner table and sent them to the University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences in St. Paul, Minn., to live out the rest of their lives.
