WASHINGTON — Spartanburg, SC-based Yu Shang Food Inc. is recalling an additional 67,651 lbs of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat and poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall expands upon the previously announced recall of 4,589 lbs, bringing the total number of affected products to 72,240 lbs.

The original recall was issued Nov. 9 for Yu Shang Food products produced between Oct. 21 and Oct. 27. With the update, all products within their shelf life that were produced before Oct. 28 are included. A complete list of impacted products is available here.

The products subject to the recall bear establishment number “P-46684” or “EST. M46684” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations nationwide and were available for online purchase.

FSIS noted that, through collaboration with public health partners, the agency has determined a link between Yu Shang Food’s RTE meat and poultry products and an illness cluster. The agency did not provide additional details on the reported illnesses.

The problem was first discovered after FSIS performed routine testing and follow-up activities of finished product from Yu Shang Food on Oct. 21 that confirmed the presence of Listeria.

Whole genome sequencing is underway to determine if these samples match the outbreak strain, FSIS said.
