LEIDEN, NETHERLANDS — Cultivated meat company Meatable onboarded two meat industry veterans as part of a strategic business move. Meatable plans to solidify itself as an ally to the global meat industry.
Among the appointments was Maiko van der Meer, who will serve as Meatable’s director of commerce, effective March 1. Based in the Netherlands, van der Meer will bring his extensive experience in the meat, poultry, fish and plant-based industries to his new role.
Van der Meer’s career has included leadership positions at MOWI, Vion Food Group, 2 Sisters Food Group and Tyson Foods. According to van der Meer’s LinkedIn page, he served as interim chief executive officer of EMEA, Tyson Foods, from 2023 to 2024.
The second new team member announced was Eugene Leong, who will serve as head of Asia for Meatable, effective May 5. He will be based in Singapore, focusing on expanding the company’s footprint in the quickly growing Asian market.
Leong brings over 25 years of experience in flavors and food ingredients. Most recently, he served as a commercial director at McCormick & Co. Prior to that he spent four years at Cargill.

As part of Meatable’s strategy, the company will participate in key industry events worldwide, including Expana Agri-Food Europe, The Economist Sustainability Week, IFFA and World Expo in Japan.
