PARKERS PRAIRIE, MINN. – Widespread severe weather killed at least three people, injured scores of others and caused extensive property damage throughout parts of central Minnesota the evening of June 17. Among the several tornados that reportedly touched down was one in Parkers Prairie, which wiped out three, 500-foot turkey barns that housed approximately 25,000 birds. According to a press release from the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association, more than half of the birds were killed at the farm, owned by Terry and Janet Carlson. M.T.G.A. Executive Director Steve Olson arrived in Parkers Prairie June 18 to assess the damage in the area.
