Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central, up 8%; West North Central, up slightly; North and South Atlantic, down 4%; and South Central and West, down 26%.
During May, turkey poults hatched in the U.S. totaled 24.2 million, up 4% from May 2009. Poults hatched were down 2% from the April 2010 total of 24.8 million poults. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central, up 7%; West North Central, up 14%; North and South Atlantic, down 3%; and South Central and West, down 16%.
The 24 million net poults placed during May 2010 in the U.S. were up 5% from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down 2% from the April 2010 total of 24.5 million.
