MILWAUKEE — Joshua J. Popp, 23, a Milwaukee man whose military flare sparked a fire at a Patrick Cudahy meatpacking plant that caused $50 million in damage, has been sentenced to 90 days in jail. The judge ordered him to spend 30 days of July in jail for the next three years and not to own weapons or set off fireworks.

Mr. Popp was also sentenced to three years of probation and 500 hours of community service after pleading guilty in August to reckless endangerment.

According to prosecutors, Mr. Popp handed the flare to his 25-year-old brother, Kurtis, in July. Prosecutors said Kurtis J. Popp fired the flare, which landed on the roof of the nearby Patrick Cudahy Inc. plant. Kurtis Popp will be sentenced on Oct. 26.
