Totaling 1.83 billion lbs., pork production was down 1% from the previous year. Hog kill totaled 9.04 million head, down 1% from June 2009. The average live weight was up 2 lbs. from the previous year, at 271 lbs.
Lamb and mutton production, totaling 14.1 million lbs., was up 2% from June 2009. Sheep slaughter totaled 212,000 head, 5% above last year. The average live weight was 134 lbs., down 3lbs. from June 2009.
Commercial red meat production from January to June 2010 totaled 23.9 billion lbs., down 2% from 2009. Accumulated beef production was down slightly from last year, veal was down 3%, pork was down 3% from last year, and lamb and mutton production was down 2%.
