OTTAWA, Ontario – Canadian exporters of rendered animal products have received approval to export products to markets in the Philippines that were previously closed to them. Canadian exports to the Philippines can begin immediately, announced Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz on Aug. 6.
The Philippine government agreed to open its market to Canadian rendered animal byproducts including blood meal, poultry meal and fats following approval by government officials and industry representatives. The Canada Beef Export Federation estimates the Philippine market for Canadian exporters of rendered products could reach $20 million.
