LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In celebration of KFC’s Original Recipe being on the market for 70 years, the fried-chicken chain planned to cook up more than 2,000 lbs. of fried chicken and unveil it on Aug. 17 in Louisville with a giant version of its iconic bucket in an attempt to set the Guinness world record for the largest-ever serving of fried chicken – dishing up literally one ton of fried chicken.

MEATPOULTRY.com was curious as to whether or not the record was broken, and here’s what KFC had to say.

“The bucket we constructed was more than eight feet tall and our Food Innovation team prepared a total of 2,493.35 lbs. of fried chicken to fill it. [The previous claimed record for "Largest Serving of Fried Chicken" was 1,650 lbs.],” said KFC spokesman Rick Maynard. “In addition to feeding hundreds of fans who attended the downtown event, we also donated more than 1,500 lbs. of fried chicken to the Dare to Care Food Bank.

“We will be submitting all the documentation to Guinness, but we feel really confident about our effort,” he added.
