SANTA ANA, Calif. – One Super King Market grocery store in Anaheim, Calif., will pay $527,000 for falsely advertising and selling generic meat as halal, The Associated Press reports. A judge signed the civil settlement Nov. 21 for the Super King Market chain's Anaheim store, said the Orange County district attorney's office.

An investigation by the DA's office began last year after a county health inspection revealed various, poorly labeled meats were delivered to the store, stored in a walk-in freezer with non-halal meats and displayed in a halal case. The company, which was not required to admit fault or liability under the settlement, also agreed to prevent any future unfair or deceptive business practices.

Super King Market operates many stores in Southern California, but the settlement only applies to its Anaheim store.
