WICHITA – Cargill Meat Solutions plans to lay off 50 people in Wichita — about 5 percent of CMS’s 1,000-person local work force — effective Jan. 6, according to the Wichita Business Journal.
These layoffs are part of Minneapolis-based and parent company Cargill Inc.’s strategy to cut 2,000 workers, or 1.5 percent, from its 138,000-person work force around the world.
Wichita employees being laid off will receive a severance package, COBRA heath care coverage and help in finding a new job, said Mike Martin, Cargill director of communications. “There is no guarantee there won't be additional reductions, based upon future business performance,” Martin told MEATPOULTRY.com.
