AUBUGNY, Australia – Beef City plans to reopen soon to end a two-week shutdown, said John Berry, JBS Australia director. Employing 1,100, the plant was closed earlier this month due to a slow down in the Japanese market, according toThe Chronicle.

“I have confirmation from Australia that the plant will open on July15 for slaughter, and will open on the 18th for fabrication/production,” Margaret McDonald, JBS USA communications director, told MEATPOULTRY.com.

Beef City had been in negotiations with Japanese clients on a daily basis, Berry said. “International markets have been challenging and will continue to be challenging,” he added.

Any further shutdowns in the future would depend on market conditions, Berry concluded.
