WILLMAR, Minn. – Jennie-O Turkey Store Inc., a subsidiary of Austin, Minn.-based Hormel Foods Corp., has embarked on a campaign to increase turkey sales by promoting turkey as a healthy breakfast item. The company has launched a social media campaign (www.SwitchToTurkey.com) as part of a photo contest with the winner receiving a trip to a health-and-wellness-oriented vacation at one of the Biggest Loser Resorts, as part of Jennie-O’s sponsorship of the “Biggest Loser” TV program.
The turkey processing company is also using the consumer-based contest, which runs through Jan. 31, to promote its breakfast items and recipes, including: turkey bacon, turkey sausage and ground turkey.
“It’s time for Americans to drop their soggy cereal, pudge-inducing pastries and boring granola,” said Barry Lynch, senior vice president of Jennie-O’s retail business unit. “The New Year is a perfect time to start each day right with a convenient, protein-rich breakfast using Jennie-O turkey.”
