DES MOINES, IOWA – A former supervisor at Agriprocessors Inc.’s Postville, Iowa meat plant, was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison and two years of probation for his involvement in helping harbor illegal immigrants, according to the Des Moines Register.
Prosecutors said Martin De La Rosa-Loera, who supervised approximately 70 employees in the poultry department, was among the first mid-level staffers arrested after the May 2008 raid on the Agriprocessors Postville facility. Last year he pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting the harboring of undocumented aliens.
Prosecutors added, among other things, that in May 2007, he told illegal workers they had to change their Social Security numbers and names to continue working at the plant. The workers also needed to "start over" for a wage of $6.25 an hour, prosecutors claimed.
