WASHINGTON – Decatur, Ala.-based Wayne Farms Inc. recalled approximately 28,528 lbs. of frozen, fully-cooked chicken products on concerns they may contain pieces of a plastic pen, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Wayne Farms alerted FSIS to the problem after the company received complaints from a customer who discovered the foreign material while preparing to further process the product, the agency said. No reports of injury have been made in connections with consumption of these chicken products.
Products subject to the recall include:
• 900-lb. combo cases containing 30, 30-lb. bags of Wayne Farms, Fully Cooked Grill Marked White Meat Chicken Strips
The suspect products were produced on Oct. 3. The products bear the USDA mark of inspection and the case codes “372277174001” through “372277254005” on the label. Three combo cases, one each from Sept. 6, Sept. 19 and Sept. 24, 2012, are also affected. The products were distributed to a facility in Kentucky for further processing into potential retail products.
