MALABO, Equatorial Guinea – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations announced plans to invest $3 million to develop poultry farming in Equatorial Guinea.

The FAO and the government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea signed an agreement that calls for the funds to be spent over three years. The agency intends to develop a family-based poultry industry that uses modern production methods. The money will go toward training, feed and care of poultry, vaccinations and general veterinary care.

"The goal of this government program is to develop the agricultural regions of the country. This agreement will have a positive impact in rural areas, by supporting the work of its people," said Miguel Oyono Ndong Mifumu, Agriculture Minister of Equatorial Guinea. Ndong and Athman Mravili, Malabo representative of the FAO, signed the agreement.
