FRESNO, Calif. – An employee of a Fresno, Calif. meat processing plant opened fire on his co-workers Nov. 6, killing two and seriously wounding two others before fatally shooting himself, according to news reports.
The alleged gunman was identified as Lawrence Jones, 42. Jones later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Police do not yet have a motive in the shooting.
The incident occurred at Apple Valley Farms doing business as Valley Proteins. Jones had worked at the company for 14 months. Police described Jones as a discharged parolee with an extensive criminal history. News reports quoted co-workers who said Jones didn’t appear to be himself when he arrived at work. At about 8:30 a.m. he pulled out a gun and started shooting. Police said approximately 30 employees witnessed the attack, and more than 60 workers were in the facility at the time of the shooting.
