WASHINGTON – Austin, Texas-based Alchemy Systems, in cooperation with the American Meat Institute Foundation announced the availability of two training videos focused on educating livestock handlers about aspects of animal behavior that are helpful in ensuring cattle and hogs are treated humanely at processing facilities. Presented in both English and Spanish, the videos are available online and in DVD format. According to a release issued by AMIF, the videos provide an introduction to animal handling, addressing flight zones, distractions and stunning. Video content was developed with input from the AMI Animal Welfare Committee.
Later this year, AMIF and Alchemy will release a second module that teaches animal welfare guidelines according to AMI’s Recommended Animal Handling Guidelines and Audit Guide.
“We were pleased to team with Alchemy on this important new training effort,” said AMI President J. Patrick Boyle. “Ensuring proper animal care and low stress handling have been among our Institute’s highest priorities for two decades. This new tool will help ensure that plants have ready access to the most current training information available.”
“It was a privilege partnering with AMI to develop courses that will help companies ensure their training program includes the most recent developments in animal handling,” said Jeff Eastman, Alchemy’s CEO.
The videos can be purchased from AMIF for $250 and are available to Alchemy customers participating in its SISTEM training program. To order the videos, go to: http://www.meatami.com/ht/d/StoreMO.
