WASHINGTON – On Feb. 1, US turkey eggs in incubators totaled 28.6 million, up 1 percent from Feb. 1, 2011, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Agricultural Statistics Board, US Department of Agriculture. Turkey eggs in incubators were up 1 percent from the January 1, 2012 total of 28.3 million eggs.
During January, US turkey poults totaled 24.3 million, up 1 percent from January 2011. Poults hatched slipped 2 percent from the December 2011 total of 24.7 million poults. Also during January, the 23.6 million net poults placed in the US increased 5 percent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were down 1 percent from the December 2011 total of 23.8 million.
