MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo. – Unified Equine is considering building a horsemeat processing plant in southwest Missouri, according to the Associated Press.

The Wyoming-based company has been conducting a feasibility study of a plan to build the plant, which would slaughter and process about 200 horses per day in one shift, and then distribute the meat to ethnic and specialty markets in the US and abroad, the AP report said.

Sue Wallis, a Wyoming state legislator, created the company after the US Department of Agriculture began inspections again for horsemeat plants.
