GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Over the decades, friendly debates have taken place at industry conventions and meetings seeking a definitive answer to the question, “Is there such a thing as a mature market?” If using bacon as an example, the answer is no.
In recent years, chocolate bars with bacon bits have been launched and Jack in the Box recently introduced its limited-time only Bacon Shake. Most recently, The Daily Sentinel, Grand Junction, Colo., published a story on maple-glazed bacon doughnuts being offered by a new two-store business in the area named Daylight Donuts.
At present, the business is cooking about 4 lbs. of bacon daily for the doughnuts and selling out of more than 60 of these creations by noon each day, said co-owner Tad Ritter. He got this unusual product idea after watching a cooking channel show several years ago. As a result, he decided to roll the dice and add bacon to his maple-glazed doughnuts. The gamble paid off as this unique offering is now among his best-sellers.
