ST-CYRILLE-DE-WENDOVER, Quebec – Olymel, a major poultry and pork packer business, has ended talks regarding a potential partnership in a large producer-owned beef slaughter plant, according to a report in Canadian Cattlemen.
The company halted talks last week with the provincial government and the Federation des producteurs de bovina du Quebec, which owns the Levinoff-Colbex plant. An Olymel spokesman said the company had conditions that needed to meet before it would join the partnership and that those conditions had not been met.
Cattle producers are in discussions with another potential partner. Groupe Cola is currently running the Colbex plant.
