WASHINGTON — The American Meat Institute joined more than 50 organizations to voice opposition to increasing the ethanol blend levels in gasoline until further scientific testing can be performed to ensure consumers will not be negatively impacted by an increase in the ethanol blend level.

In a letter addressed to the heads of the Department of Energy, Department of Agriculture and Environmental Protection Agency, as well as presidential advisor Carol Browner, the group encouraged them to follow President Obama’s March 9, 2009 memorandum on "Scientific Integrity" which stated: "Science and the scientific process must inform and guide decisions of my Administration on a wide range of issues, including improvement of public health, protection of the environment, increased efficiency in the use of energy and other resources, mitigation of the threat of climate change, and protection of national security."
