OTTAWA, Canada – Officials with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) are expanding a recall of frozen ground beef products on concerns the items may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.
The recall is part of an ongoing investigation dating back to Feb. 18. Since then, CFIA has issued seven recall advisories for ground beef products manufactured by New Food Classics, Burlington, Ontario. New Food Classics has voluntarily recalled the affected product. The agency confirmed one illness associated with consumption of the affected products.
The affected items were produced between July 1, 2011, and Feb. 15, 2012, CFIA said. The Public Health Agency of Canada has been working with its provincial and territorial health authorities to determine a connection between other E. coli illnesses and the affected products.
