GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – JBS suspended production at its Grand Island, Neb. facility after a batch of beef trimmings tested positive for E. coli bacteria, according to media reports.
Production was expected to resume April 27. The pathogen was discovered two days earlier. A spokesman for JBS SA, said the E. coli was found during a routine test of beef trimmings. No beef is being recalled because none of the meat from the affected batch was shipped from the facility as part of its test-and-hold program.
The JBS spokeman said the plant was sanitized after the discovery, and the meat was retreated or cooked within a half-day of the positive test.
