MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. and SPRINGDALE, Ark. – JBS USA, Tyson Foods and Cargill Inc. said they have no plans to close plants because of declining demand for lean finely textured beef (LFTB), according to a report from Bloomberg.
Cargill said it would scale back production of LFTB at two plants in Texas, one in Nebraska and one in Kansas, according to Mike Martin, spokesman for Cargill. Gary Mickelson, spokesman for Tyson, told Bloomberg the company does not expect the LFTB controversy to result in a plant closing because the sale of beef trimmings is just one part of the company’s beef processing plant production.
JBS USA said it would adjust its production of beef trimmings if consumer demand continues to decline.
