MILFORD, Conn. – Subway plans to open 1,200 North American restaurants in 2012, the company announced May 18.

The Subway chain has opened nearly 900 new stores in 58 countries, 42 US states and seven Canadian provinces since January. Most recently, the company reached 25,000 US locations and restaurants open in 100 countries.

Subway in 2011 opened more than 2,400 restaurants worldwide, including 1,100 new locations in the United States and Canada, and created approximately 24,000 new food service jobs.
