WASHINGTON – Turkey eggs in incubators climbed 8 percent to 30 million in May, according to data from the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the US Department of Agriculture.
Eggs in incubators increased 6 percent from the April 1, 2012, total of 28.2 million eggs, NASS said.
Turkey poults hatched during April totaled 24.2 million, up 2 percent from April 2011. Poults hatched were down 4 percent from the March 2012 total of 25.2 million poults.
Net poults placed during April 2012 increased 2 percent to 23.8 million, according to NASS. Net placements declined 5 percent from the March 2012 total of 25.1 million.
