GENEVA – Brazil has formally taken action against South Africa’s use of antidumping policies against Brazilian poultry meat, according to a statement from the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Brazil requested consultations with South Africa under the WTO’s dispute settlement system over South Africa’s allegations that Brazilian poultry was dumped in the South African market, damaging the country’s domestic poultry sales. South Africa imposed an anti-dumping duty of 62.93 percent on whole chickens, and 46.59 percent on boneless cuts from Brazil, according to Reuters. The measures exclude boneless cuts from Aurora Alimentos, which are charged a duty of 6.26 percent.

Brazil could ask for a panel to adjudicate the matter if consultations fail.
