WASHINGTON – El Monte, Calif.-based CB Foods recalled roughly 55,757 lbs. of pork dumpling products on undeclared monosodium glutamate (MSG), according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

FSIS personnel discovered the problem during a food safety assessment. Chicken powder, which is incorporated into the pork dumpling product, contains MSG, but only the powder — not the MSG contained within the powder — is listed as an ingredient. FSIS and CB Foods have received no reports of illness or adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.

The company recalled 12.5-lb. cases/trays of “Pork Shaomai Dumpling” with a case code of 002, FSIS said. The products were produced between June 1 and June 5, and were shipped to hotels and restaurants in California and Nevada.
