GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – A lightning strike caused an explosion and fire near a JBS beef processing plant in Grand Island on June 14, according to local news reports.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. when the Grand Island Fire Department responded to reports of explosions and a large fire east of the plant. The lightning strike ignited biogas on top of a wastewater lagoon, according to news reports. No buildings were affected by the fire.
