WASHINGTON — Turkey, egg and red meat stocks on July 31, 2012, were higher than year-earlier levels, but chicken stocks were lower, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its latest Cold Storage report.
Frozen turkey stocks totaled 554,984,000 lbs., up 1 percent from June and up 6 percent from July 2011, the USDA said. Total chicken stocks were 648,638,000 lbs., up slightly from 646,137,000 lbs. in June but down 14 percent from July 2011. Total frozen poultry stocks were 1,208,139,000 lbs., up 1 percent from June but down 6 percent from July 2011.
Frozen red meat supplies totaled 1,030,770,000 lbs., down 5 percent from June but up 15 percent from July 2011. Frozen pork stocks were 546,551,000 lbs., down 8 percent from June but up 20 percent from July 2011. Beef stocks in freezers totaled 455,743,000 lbs., down 3 percent from June but up 10 percent from July 2011.
Total frozen egg stocks on July 31 were 38,674,000 lbs., down 4 percent from June but up 14 percent from July 2011. Stocks of egg whites were 3,375,000 lbs., down 22 percent from June but up 1 percent from July 2011. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 2,539,000 lbs., up 12 percent from June and up 2 percent from July 2011. Whole and mixed egg stocks were 11,956,000 lbs., up 2 percent from June and up 37 percent from July 2011. Unclassified egg stocks were 20,804,000 lbs., down 5 percent from June but up 7 percent from July 2011.
