Company executives, government dignitaries and 700 other guests attended a ceremony recently to officially open the plant. The ultra-modern facility has a processing capacity of 450,000 chickens per week and employs roughly 200 people. The Sunnymel plant will serve Canada's Maritimes market and other distribution networks in the country.
The plant is jointly owned by Groupe Westco, the largest poultry producer in New Brunswick, and Olymel, a leader in the Canadian food processing industry. Construction began on the $55 million facility in the summer of 2011.
