Chicago's Community Development Commission recently approved a $5 million subsidy to pay for the move to the city's Bridgeport neighborhood. Vienna Beef's offices and hot dog facilities have been on Chicago's North Side since 1972. The company signed a contract in May to buy a hot-dog facility once owned by Sara Lee Corp.
Company officials began considering a move after city officials announced plans to reconfigure an intersection near the facility. Vienna Beef said the project could impair access to the facility and any future expansion plans, according toCrain's Chicago Business.
The subsidy is subject to City Council approval; construction would begin next December.
