Police arrested Dafydd Raw-Rees, owner of Farmbox Meats in Llandre, Wales, in February after a raid by law enforcement and FSA officers. Raw-Rees has maintained his innocence and said he would sue the agency for defamation and would seek compensation for his lost business. He also plans to sue the Dyfed-Powys Police for alleged wrongful arrest.
In February, the Dyfed-Powys police arrested Raw-Rees and Colin Patterson, the plant manager, on suspicion of fraud. The FSA alleged that executives with Peter Boddy Licensed Slaughterhouse allegedly were selling horse meat raw materials to Farmbox, which were in turn made into kebabs and burgers and sold as beef.
Raw-Rees, who is free on bail, claims that exhaustive testing has revealed no evidence of horse DNA contamination at his plant.
