“Thanks to the quick response of local firefighters the fire was put out quickly and the damage was limited,” Gary Mickelson, Tyson spokesman, told MeatPoultry.com.
The fire broke out during the overnight sanitation shift when the plant was not in operation. However, around 80 employees were in the facility at the time of the fire. Workers had already been evacuated safely to a parking lot by the time the first responders arrived on scene.
Battalion Chief Jason Williams of Hanover Fire & EMS reported that the fire was declared under control in slightly more than an hour. More than two dozen firefighters helped control the blaze.
The first shift of production at the plant was delayed two hours this morning, said Mickelson.
